New furniture
Your furniture is always finished when it arrives, so you can start using it immediately. Keep in mind that it can take a couple of weeks before the oil has fully hardened, so be extra careful with the surface the first time. Never leave damp objects or liquids as this can lead to the appearance of damp spots. Table surfaces in special oak need finishing during the first months, other furniture when the surface starts to look dry (once or twice a year, depending on use/wear). This effort gives your furniture the right conditions to age beautifully and last well into the future.
Oil
We like to oil our furniture with plant-based oils as it preserves the wood's natural feel, provides good protection and allows the wood to breathe. Which of our oils you choose; natural or white pigmented, is a matter of taste.
Which product is suitable for maintaining your furniture depends on the surface treatment it has. A linseed-oiled oak piece of furniture should continue to be maintained with linseed oil. We recommend GAD's hot-pressed linseed oil which has a small addition of Gotland beeswax for additional protection of the surface. For white-oiled oak furniture, we recommend "OSMO Hard wax oil white". If you have white-oiled birch furniture, however, "OSMO Maintenance wax white" is better suited. The maintenance products must be applied thinly in the direction of the grain of the wood and worked in until the surface feels dry. To get a higher finish and remove possible fiber rise, a super fine sandpaper (400-600) is used before the treatment. This applies especially if you want the oak surface to be smooth as this fiber rise will occur over a couple of months.
Soap
The soap treatment means that the surface is protected by saturating it. Table surfaces that are used a lot should always be dried and cleaned with soap, preferably once a week at first. For maintenance, use a mixture of approx. ½ tablespoon of soap flakes to ½ liter of lukewarm water, stir until the flakes dissolve and the mixture feels a little sticky and runny. Use a sponge or cloth, iron in the direction of the grain of the wood and let dry. Lightly sand with superfine sandpaper (400) if the surface feels rough (fiber rise).
Painted furniture
We paint our furniture with paint from Syntema . It is an environmentally friendly water-based paint. Clean your painted furniture with a damp cloth. Many modern cloths work great with just water, if necessary a little soap can be added to the water.
Limestone
For care, we recommend ordinary yellow soap, the stone is primed with soap on delivery. During normal maintenance, the stone is dried with a solution of 1 part soap and 8 parts water. If you get a stain, you can put a sponge with a soapy solution on the stain overnight (repeat if it's still there). Tougher stains can be tackled with a degreasing detergent (uncoloured) or chemically pure petrol. Because these degrease, you need to soap the stone again. Then take 1 part soap to 4 parts water. Don't be afraid to scrub a spot with, for example, a nail brush, the stone is more durable than you think. Never use salt for stain removal, it corrodes the stone. It also does not tolerate acidic agents such as citric acid.
Lambskin
Lambskin is good for vacuuming and airing. Liquid that is spilled is soaked up with a cloth or paper towel. Sometimes sticky stains can be removed more easily if you first let them dry and then brush away the dirt. Lambskin that has been soaked can be combed and lightly sprayed with water and the curls will rise again.
Wool
Wool is naturally dirt-repellent. Should a stain occur, we recommend wool shampoo or bile soap mixed with water for stain removal. Dab the solution onto the stain (avoid rubbing) and soak up the liquid with a cloth. Repeat until the stain is gone. Bile soap is also recommended for stain removal on furniture covered with wool fabric. Do in the same way as with the lambskin.
Leather
A quality leather ages beautifully and lasts a long time with the right maintenance. Keep in mind that direct sunlight can bleach dark leather and darken light leather. Do not use strong cleaning products that can dry out or discolor the leather. Maintain your furniture in two steps. Clean first with a leather cleaning product. Then apply a natural leather wax to prevent the leather from drying out.
